UNDERSTANDING PARENTAL CONSENT FOR YOUR CHILD’S MEDICAL TREATMENT

What is Parental Consent?

Parental consent is a process that ensures you, as a parent, understand and agree to the medical treatment or medication your child may receive. According to Idaho Senate Bill 1329, this process involves providing you with information about the proposed treatment, including its benefits, risks, and alternatives. The exceptions however are court orders, emergency situations, and emancipations.

Why is Parental Consent Important?

Legal Requirement: It fulfills the legal requirement set by Idaho Senate Bill 1329, July 1st 2024.

What to Expect During the Parental Consent Process

Review Blanket Consent Form: You will be given a Blanket consent form that covers potential treatments.

Changes: If you do not want to consent to all treatments outlined in the blanket consent, please document on the form which treatments you wish to exclude. If you have any questions about services, please ask your child’s medical provider for additional information.

Time to Decide: Parental Consent for Minors is required on or after July 1, 2024. Minors will not receive medical treatment or medications after July 1, 2024, without a parental consent form on file with Desert Sage Health Centers.
